what would be the consequences of a motion of censure before the vote?

The debates around the 2025 budget are dragging on and that does not suit the government’s business. In fact, the text must be voted on in 70 days. With the calendar in front of you, the government will trigger a 49.3due to lack of a majority, to have the budget adopted in its entirety, without a vote. The oppositions will then respond with a motion of censure.

This high-risk period for the government is located between December 18 and 21. The latter is the deadline. So, it is possible that will no longer have a Prime Minister at Christmas.

Maud Bregeon, government spokesperson, spoke in the columns of Le Parisien a possible “Greek-style scenario” and it is not outrageous. Indeed, since the message sent to those who lend money is that the country is incapable of having a budget, incapable of keeping a government, incapable of making efforts. Today we borrow money more expensively than the Spanish and we are indeed getting closer to Greek rates.

If Michel Barnier is no longer Prime Minister, Emmanuel Macron will still look for someone to place at Matignonrepeat like last summer. It took the President of the Republic two months to replace Gabriel Attal. It took a long time because we had to find someone who would not fall directly under a motion of censure. In addition to the risk of the financial crisis, there is also that of the political crisis.
