A murder and an attempted murder before the Haute-Corse Assize Court. The case dates back to December 19, 2020: a violent altercation broke out between Marcel Vadella and two brothers, Jamal and Jaoide Fadil. The facts occurred at the bar “L'Arcole”, located rue Santa Maddalena, in the southern districts of , of which the first is manager.

Contacted, the police arrived on site at the beginning of the afternoon. Marcel Vadella, present on the scene, told them that he had fired several shots. Jamal Fadil, 40, shot several times, died at the scene. His brother Jaoide is seriously injured.

On December 21, two days after the events, the merchant was indicted for intentional homicide and attempted intentional homicide, and placed in pre-trial detention at the Borgo remand center. He remained there for two and a half years, before a judgment by the investigating chamber, in July 2023, which granted him home detention under electronic surveillance while awaiting his trial, carried out on the continent.

Why could this bar manager commit this shooting? During their investigation, the police quickly headed towards a clue: a clash which apparently took place the day before the incident, between the three men, and in the same place. Argument during which the fifty-year-old was allegedly beaten, threatened with death and victim of extortion attempts. A version of the facts denied by Jaoide Fadil.

At the center of the conflict: a commercial dispute concerning another bar owned by Marcel Vadella and managed by the Fadil brothers, and more precisely, significant rent debts that the latter owed to the former, according to the accused. Advising Marcel Vadella, Me Nathalie Airola assured in June 2023 – the date on which the trial was initially to be held – that her client had long tried to resolve things amicably, before the situation degenerated the day before the tragedy.

The manager of the bar himself contacted the police after the events and made himself a prisoner, said the Bastia public prosecutor, Arnaud Viornery, without giving further details on his motive. The accused, for his part, pleads self-defense.

As a reminder, Jamal and Jaoide Fadil were already unfavorably known to the police. Presented as a member of local banditry, Jaoide Fadil was, in October 2023, sentenced on appeal to five years in prison for complicity in destruction in the fire at the “La mise au verre” establishment.

This trial will aim to shed light on this matter. The accused faces up to 30 years of criminal imprisonment. The verdict is expected Friday, November 29.
