Windows 11: the bug in the latest update that can hurt your eardrums

Windows 11 users recently faced a most unexpected problem: sudden and untimely volume peaks that may occur at certain times. This bug, which seems to mainly affect configurations equipped with external sound cardscan be particularly unpleasant, or even dangerous for users' ears…

The exact causes of this problem are still unclear, but several factors appear to contribute. A priori, the service Microsoft's AudioEndpointBuilder would be the source of the inconvenience.

It is also possible that some drivers are faulty. Audio drivers, these small pieces of software that allow Windows to communicate with your sound card, can sometimes contain bugs that cause sound malfunctions. But in this specific case, this bug can occur while you are performing a very basic action such as, for example, waking up your PC from sleep mode or performing a series of disconnections and reconnections with your audio system.

Other scenarios can contribute to triggering this bug. Are mainly concerned Windows 11 users who have updated their operating system with patch 24H2.

Rest assured, Microsoft has already become aware of this bug which threatens the health of your ears. For the moment, no solution has been found but the technical teams are working on a fix. Still according to Microsoft, it would indeed be the AudioEndpointBuilder service which is causing the problem.

Our advice to avoid damaging your hearing

While waiting for the upcoming fix, it is obvious that we do not want to run the risk of losing part of our hearing while using our PC. However, this is not a reason to immediately shut down your PC and put it away in the closet for the months to come: there are much less radical solutions to protect yourself from this worry.

It is particularly recommended toavoid rapid manipulation of audio parameters and of carefully monitor the volume when plugging and unplugging. This new bug is added to the list of problems encountered since the deployment of Windows 11 24H2, highlighting the need for increased vigilance on the part of users.

Finally, keep an eye on the news around Microsoft and Windows 11 so as not to miss the fix and the various improvements made by the Redmond firm.
