Beta version 12.21 is currently available for Fenix 8, Fenix E and Enduro 3 watches. The over-the-air update brings a new bug fix to smartwatches, fixing an issue that could cause the devices to crash. It also removes a new navigation app recently added to the models.
Garmin announced beta version 12.21 of the software https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/fenix-8-series/f/announcements/391804/beta-version-12-21—available-ota in the part of its first round of testing for the Fenix 8, Fenix E and Enduro 3 smartwatches. The update arrived a few days after version 12.19this update comes a few days after version 19, which added a new Reference Point app to smartwatches.
Reference Point is a watch-based navigation application that provides users with line of sight and bearing to their destination. Tools include cardinal directions, a compass dial and a direction of travel arrow. However, the 12.21 beta changelog indicates that this app has been temporarily removed. Garmin says it took this action because the “Use Map” feature was getting stuck. It's unclear when the app will return to smartwatches.
The update also fixed an issue where devices could crash when searching for certain POI categories when using Explore Nearby. This software update is being released over the air to users of the Fenix 8 (currently $999 at Amazon) who have signed up for the beta program. A post on the Garmin forum states that all eligible smartwatches will receive the update within the next 24 hours.
