Budget: Michel Barnier's government is “taking the path” of a motion of censure, threatens Jordan Bardella

Will the threat of the National Rally be carried out? Guest of BFMTV, this Monday, November 18, Jordan Bardella, the president of the National Rally warned that his parliamentarians could overthrow the executive of Michel Barnier if the finance bill is not modified.

If the latter “remains as it is”, “if the political course continues”, Michel Barnier's government “takes the path of censorship”, said Jordan Bardella, the party's boss. “My decision is not made” at this stage, but his movement is “considering” such a vote, warned Marine Le Pen’s successor.

“The French have daily concerns, security, immigration control, purchasing power, economic activity. If on these major issues the Prime Minister (…) is not capable of setting a course (…) then what is the interest of this government? “, asked the president of the RN.

After leaving the National Assembly last week, the examination of the 2025 budget will be studied in the Senate next week. It would be enough for the 126 Lepénist deputies to support a motion tabled by the left to bring down the Prime Minister. A scenario that still appeared baroque a few weeks ago. Faced with a fragmented National Assembly without a majority, Emmanuel Macron ensured this summer that Marine Le Pen and her followers would not censor Michel Barnier a priori, a favor she had agreed to.

But the new party boss assured that he had “always” considered voting for a motion of censure against the government of Michel Barnier. “This government has neither a parliamentary majority to act nor democratic legitimacy. Michel Barnier is a ghost and no one knows, no one is able to say where he wants to go,” said Jordan Bardella.

Nevertheless, Jordan Bardella suggested that he might not vote for a possible motion of censure, in the event of political guarantees: “If the government tomorrow tells us that it is making the commitment that there will be in the coming months the proportional. If tomorrow the government tells us that on security, we will reinstate the minimum sentences. If he tells us that they are going to give up increasing taxes on electricity… I would say very good,” he listed.
