Proud to be the final stage of the 42nd stage of the Olympic Torch Relay, the stage town of Metz experienced things in a big way. A look back at the end of the day as symbolic as it was historic.

The event had been awaited for many months on the Moselle side. This Thursday, June 27, was marked by the passage of the Olympic Flame in the department with the city of Metz as the last place of burning. The latter experienced things in a big way, 32 years after welcoming the Flame during the Albertville Winter Olympic Games (January 4, 1992).

6.40 kilometers long, this route began on the Arena side where 30 torchbearers walked 200 meters with the Flame in their hands before passing it on to the next bearer. Finally, it was on the Place de la République side that the adventure ended. The opportunity to see or see again certain symbolic faces for Metz with Sylvain Kastendeuch, or even Michaël Jeremiasz and Inès Lagdiri-Nastasi to name only those who passed into the mixed zone at the end of the event. Obviously, there were much more.

Allison Pineau, a historic return

At the beginning of the month, Metz Handball announced a rather surprising comeback. Almost retired, Allison Pineau finally signed up for a season with the Dragonnes where she played between 2009 and 2012. The ex-international had the honor and privilege of lighting the cauldron on the Place de la République at the around 7:20 p.m.

Beautiful people at the arrival of the Flame

This global event is also an opportunity to meet some figures from the political landscape. The Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games of France, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, was passing through Moselle for the occasion for what she considered to be a ” very beautiful moment of joy and sharing, with lots of smiles and fervor ” Patrick Weiten, president of the Moselle departmental council, and François Grosdidier, mayor of Metz were also present for this page of history for Moselle and Metz.
