Almost a hundred firefighters are fighting this Sunday, November 17, 2024 against a fire which broke out around 3:50 a.m. on rue Ambroise Thomas, near the Hisler bookstore, not far from Saint-Étienne Cathedral.
Maneuvers are still underway to contain the fire. The people of Messina are asked toavoid the area and a red zone with total passage ban is in force near the danger zone.
Metz Cathedral and the covered market are both covered in thick cloud of smokewhile the Moselle firefighters are still working on site to put out the last flames.
Around twenty people living near the disaster had to be relocated. The city of Metz indicates that access to certain streets and certain sites near the fire will be closed to facilitate the work of firefighters.
Here is the list:
- Access to Place de Chambre will be closed from Quai Paul Vautrin / rue du Pont des Roches
- Access will be via rue des Jardins, then place d’Armes and rue d’Estrées
- Rue du Faisan will be closed to vehicle traffic
- Rue Ambroise Thomas will be closed to all traffic (automobile and pedestrian, except local pedestrians) between Rue du Palais and Rue Paul Bezanson
- Rue au Blé is also closed to all traffic (automobile and pedestrian, except local pedestrians)
- Rue du Palais will be closed to vehicles between rue aux Ours and la Nexirue
- Pedestrian access will always be possible while respecting the markings in place.
- The Cathedral car park will also be closed
