The unprecedented political context seems to be mobilizing. There are many more proxies one week before the first round of the legislative elections than at the same period during the previous election.

A very short campaign, an announcement of dissolution which had the effect of a bomb, the absence of a presidential election just before… there are many factors to explain the rush for proxies and the mobilization for this electoral deadline, which is approaching to big steps.

Less than a week before the first round of legislative elections, the Ministry of the Interior recorded 1,377,105 proxies. According to BFM, this represents 5.9 times more proxies than for the 2022 legislative elections over a similar period.

National figures, but which seem to illustrate a very global trend. In Occitania too, the gendarmerie services are overwhelmed by requests.

Thousands of proxies in a few days in cities

“We recorded 3,058 in ten days, compared to 1,640 in six months for the Europeans,” responds the City of Nîmes. “We had 2,693 proxies on Wednesday, we reached 4,500 this Thursday, or almost 2,000 in 24 hours”indicates Radia Tikouk, municipal councilor in charge of elections in Montpellier, as part of an article in Midi Libre devoted to the explosion of proxies.

This Tuesday, June 25, the three main political blocs competing for the legislative elections in France will face each other in a televised debate. It remains to be seen whether this type of exercise will be decisive and whether there will be as many proxies for the second round of voting, which will be held on July 7.
