Delphine and Thibault, the mother and older brother of little Lola, killed on October 14, 2022, spoke in the testimony program It starts today. Both remain deeply damaged but are trying to rebuild themselves.
While the Paris prosecutor’s office requested a trial for the murder and barbaric acts perpetrated on Lola, 12, in October 2022, her family broke its silence. A few weeks after a first interview in Le Figaro, the young girl’s mother, Delphine, and her older brother, Thibault, spoke in the testimony program It starts today, broadcast this Tuesday, November 12.
Everyone has plunged back into that fatal afternoon and is struggling to get rid of a feeling of guilt.
“I was packing my bags to leave in the evening and at lunchtime, I decided to take a little nap because we have a little break in between. (…) I tell myself that maybe I shouldn’t have take this nap because usually I go out at that time when she comes home and I would have inevitably encountered her and unfortunately that day I did not go out,” confided the mother.
When she learns that Lola has not returned as usual, and has not given any news, Delphine says she had a bad feeling. “I felt a big stab,” she says.
Thibault also thinks that he could have saved his sister in other circumstances. “I had an appointment at 3 p.m. at the hairdresser and I was late, as usual. But as a result, as in our residence we have two exits, for five minutes, I stood in front wondering which one was closest,” he recalled.
The young man discovered, devastated, on the CCTV images that his sister had taken the other aisle when he was going to his appointment. “Since that day, I tell myself that if I had taken the right instead of the left, it is certain that nothing would have happened, that we would still be in Paris and that there would still be four of us.”
“At first I didn’t want to know anything”
Lola’s mother returned to the circumstances of her daughter’s death after having long refused to know the details. “At first, I didn’t want to know anything. I couldn’t tell myself all the atrocities she had done to him. I know them, but I can’t say them orally. It’s very complicated to know what she suffered,” she said.
Delphine still asked the investigators if Lola had not suffered. “They told me no, that she stopped breathing on her own, out of fear. Afterwards we found out everything she had done to him. Now, it hurts.”
If Delphine and Thibault agreed to come and talk on this television show, it was to break the silence about Lola, whom they never talk about together. “We don’t dare talk about it to each other, for fear of hurting each other,” explained the mother. “Don’t talk to me about it, not for now. I’m in a phase where I want to have fun. I want to forget.”
Lola’s mother said she “believes in justice” and expects explanations from the trial. “It was important to know that she could be judged. I don’t really know what to expect from this hearing. I’m still waiting for answers, but I will always ask myself why. Why my Lola? Why did she do that? Yes It turns out she’ll never give any explanations either.”
