In the middle of the afternoon, another home was destroyed by the flames without causing any casualties, in the Anse-à-l’Âne district of Trois-Îlets, where around twenty firefighters were dispatched.
The Martinique firefighters were called upon this Sunday, November 10 for two major interventions. First in the morning, the body of a man in his forties was found in a completely engulfed house, in the Grosse Gouttière district, in Saint-Jospeh.
Dispatched to the site “quickly”Around 8:15 a.m., the town’s firefighters could only note the death. The police froze the scene and therefore the circumstances of this tragedy were not substantiated.
Later, in the afternoon, around 2:50 p.m., the men were called again to put out the fire in another house, in the Anse-à-l’Âne district of Trois-Îlets.
Located near a restaurant-ice cream parlor (rue du Mérou) not far from the beach, the house was inhabited but the occupants were quickly evacuated by the emergency services. Some of them suffocated from the smoke, but no casualties were reported according to firefighters.
This intervention required relatively substantial resources, including 3 water trucks from Rivière-Salée and Lamentin, as well as around twenty men mobilized.
In both cases, it is the gendarmerie which will be responsible for investigations in order to find out the exact circumstances of this double disaster.
