The Puy players, aged 15 and 16, were chased onto the pitch by spectators and people from the club who were hosting the match. Their parents came down from the stands to protect them and were hit.
“It’s unimaginable. In 30 years of football, I have never seen something like this” testifies a member of the Puy Foot steering committee. The experienced man who followed this affair for Le Puy Foot says that “in the 44th minute of the friendly match, there was a banal foul play between two players. This justified a call to order against a player from Lyon. But the referee intervened in a very violent way. He wanted to hit the youngster. It escalated with people from Lyon chasing players from Le Puy on the field. stands to protect their children.”

Everything was addressed to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Football League. It remains to be seen whether sanctions will be taken within the sporting body.
