Hundreds of people gathered Saturday evening in front of the headquarters of the Kirya army in Tel Aviv for the weekly demonstration demanding a “truce agreement for the release of hostages”. Many families of captives led the procession to mark 400 days since the kidnapping of their loved ones.
A huge sign reading “Why are they still in Gaza?” 400 Days” was hung on the pedestrian bridge down to street level, while large white cardboard letters were plastered across the street “400 Days – Netanyahu’s Shame”.
Steffen Seibert, Germany's ambassador to Israel, also spoke at the rally, saying in Hebrew that for some Israeli politicians, “the fate of the hostages is only one of the goals [de la guerre]and certainly not the main one” – a not-so-subtle attack on members of Netanyahu’s ultra-nationalist government.
Seibert added that he was speaking “as a representative of Germany and out of responsibility” towards the hostages of German nationality.
“I have to admit that so far we haven't managed to get everyone home. None of the talks with those who have influence over Hamas have been successful. »
Saturday's rally brought together a wide range of speakers representing the different factions in favor of a deal to free the hostages.
