The drone war between Russia and Ukraine is intensifying. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced Sunday, November 9 on Telegram that it had “foiled an attempted terrorist attack by the kyiv regime”, by destroying a total of 70 drones in the morning, including 34 in the Moscow region.
This attack in the Russian capital region is of an unprecedented scale since the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. A 52-year-old woman was injured by shrapnel. The governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobiov, said that the interceptions took place in particular over the towns of Ramenskoye and Domodedovo, about 40 kilometers southeast of the center of Moscow and near airports. .
A “record” for Russian drones in Ukraine
The other drones were shot down in the Moscow-bordering regions of Kaluga (7) and Tula (2), and in three border regions of Ukraine: Bryansk (14), Oriol (7) and Kursk (6).

For his part, Volodymyr Zelensky said in a message on X that his country was targeted during the night from Saturday to Sunday by an attack by 145 Russian drones. This constitutes a « record », said the Ukrainian president.

The Ukrainian Air Force said that, as of 9:30 a.m. (local time), 62 of these 145 drones had been neutralized over 13 regions of the country. This new salvo comes four days after a massive Russian drone attack on the Ukrainian capital, targeted almost daily for a month.
The rarely targeted Russian capital
Russia reports shooting down Ukrainian drones over its territory almost daily, but they rarely target the Russian capital, located some 500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. On September 10, authorities announced the death of a woman during a Ukrainian strike that hit a residential building in the town of Ramenskoye, southeast of Moscow. In the summer of 2023, devices were also destroyed over the Moscow business district, and, in May 2023, two devices were shot down within the Kremlin compound.
kyiv says it is carrying out its strikes on Russia, which mainly target energy sites, in response to the deadly Russian bombings which are destroying its infrastructure and devastating its cities.
