Elim/CAN 2025: Oscar Kabwit takes the place of injured Gaël Kakuta

Oscar Kabwit, young winger from TP Mazembe, has just been called up for the Leopards’ November training camp to replace Gaël Kakuta, who was out due to an injury. The announcement is confirmed by the Congolese association football federation (FECOFA) on its social networks this Saturday, November 9, 2024. This summons marks a first for Kabwit under the tricolor colors. It comes in a context where the coach, Sébastien Desabre, had underlined the importance for local players to stand out to obtain their place in the pennant. “When a local player is ready, we will select him,” he said at a press briefing on Thursday.

At 19 years old, Kabwit has already established himself as a major asset in the TP Mazembe attack this season, taking up the torch after the mass departures of Glody Likonza, Fily Traoré and Joël Beya. This season it’s 591 minutes compiled for two assists and one goal.

His master class over the two legs of the double confrontation against Red Arrows in the Champions League is not to be outdone. For this very important poster of the 16th finals, he shone doubly in the round trip: contributing considerably to the qualification of TP Mazembe for the group stage of the competition.

The Leopards will be received on Yamoussoukro 16 by the Sily National of Guinea in the fifth day of the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) Morocco 2025. On Tuesday, November 19, they will grant hospitality to the Walya of Ethiopia for complete this campaign which they will have supplanted.

These explanations are obviously worthless in the eyes of the French coach who wants to make them a godsend to try to cure the variety of his offensive animation which is stalling. Also a glimmer for him, and “for his players to show us things, to see if they are capable of continuing with us. Evaluate them in more depth,” he emphasized. The ideal for Desabre is known in advance: “it is to win the next two matches.”
