At 29, Sagiv leaves behind a valuable legacy. The only runner to have evolved with Israel – Premier Tech since its creation in 2015, he has completed 467 races, having covered more than 274,000 kilometers, the equivalent of going around the world seven times.
Sagiv, a symbol for Israeli cycling
Reflecting on his career, Sagiv says: “ What will impact me the most is not so much the numbers, but the fact that I broke the glass ceiling for myself and young Israelis who dream of professional cycling. I proved that the dream was possible. » He remembers the 2018 Giro d’Italia, where he started in the streets of Jerusalem, surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd. “ To this day I can close my eyes and feel the energy of this moment“, he confides.
A career of dedication and sacrifice
Sylvan Adams, owner of Israel – Premier Tech, salutes this pioneer of Israeli cycling: “ Guy is a model of professionalism, ready to sacrifice himself for his teammates and guide young Israeli talents. He has been a central part of our team since its inception, and he will continue to inspire as a member of the staff. »
For his part, Ron Baron, founder of the team, emphasizes: “ Guy not only represented Israel – Premier Tech on the road, he became an ambassador for Israel. Seeing Guy cross the finish line of the Giro in 2018, after three intense weeks, remains an unforgettable moment. »
A mentor for younger generations
For Nadav Raisberg, a young Israeli talent, Sagiv is much more than a teammate: “ As a young runner he inspired and supported me. I owe him a lot, just like our generation. » Dror Pekatch, Israeli sports director, confirms: “ Guy marked a turning point for Israeli cycling. Before him, few young Israelis dared to believe in a professional career. »
A promising future in the staff
Although he would have liked to extend another season, Sagiv is ready to play a key role as a mentor within the team. “ I have had an incredible career, and I am ready to pass on my experience to young talents“, he confides, with intact motivation to help riders meet the challenges of professional cycling.
