OL dominates PSG and takes the lead in the championship

Victorious over the Parisiennes by the smallest of margins, the Lyonnaises struck a major blow at the top of the Women's First League.

The shock for the Fenottes. won the summit of French women's football against PSG (1-0) thanks to a goal from former Parisian Tabitha Chawinga to regain power at the top of the First League, Sunday at Groupama Stadium for the 6th day.

No photo. English European champion goalkeeper Mary Earps avoided a correction at Saint-Germain, but OL are back in control of the Championship, which they had let slip away by conceding a draw at Paris FC (0-0) while PSG had won their first five matches. Champion 17 times over the last 18 seasons, having only missed out on one crown in 2021, precisely at PSG, Lyon still rules the roost and takes a one point lead.

As a symbol of the ascendancy that the Lyonnaises maintain over their great rivals, the goal was scored by the Malawian recruited this summer from PSG, on a pass from Kadidiatou Diani, which OL had stolen the previous summer from the club the capital. In front of around 15,000 spectators, Chawinga scored on a Lyon counterattack, for one of the rare times when the Parisiennes had taken the initiative. The best player in the championship last year took advantage of a beautiful curling pass from “Kadi” and beat the goalkeeper of the England team with a pointer.

Perfectionist fox, PSG misses its meeting

“The three points are what we wanted”launched Wendie Renard at the microphone of Canal +, but the Lyon captain had other “goals” and is not entirely satisfied. “We have to be more killer, at half-time we have to come in with more goals, even in the second half we have situations. We won't have ten thousand opportunities in the next matches.”especially in the Champions League, she added.

The only French representative this season in the Champions League, OL faces Roma in the Eternal City in ten days, with the head of the group at stake.

This failed match is a new poor performance for Parisian coach Fabrice Abriel, after the elimination in the C1 play-offs, an industrial accident for the club, semi-finalist last year, beaten by… Lyon.

Certainly, his team was very weakened by the defensive packages (Griedge Mbock, Elisa De Almeida, Sakina Karchaoui…), but it was besieged by the Lyonnaises. From the 6th minute, after a clever combination with Melchie Dumornay, Kadidiatou Diani found the post, as did the Dutchwoman Damaris Egurrola (32nd) a little later.

The only good news for PSG in this missed afternoon was that French team striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto played again, after missing the Bleues' last two matches due to injury.

Entering the break in place of the Nigerian Jennifer Echegini, she only stood out in defense, saving two goal balls from Egurrola on her line (64th and 73rd), another sign of Lyon's clear domination. She mishandled the only goal ball she had (81st). OL were too strong.
