Gas and fuel oil tanks stranded at the Lavalette dam (video)

On Saturday and Sunday, firefighters removed several tanks of gas and fuel oil, and water heaters, from the water, stranded at the Lavalette dam following the floods of Thursday, October 17.

Where do these tanks come from, certainly transported several kilometers by strong water? For the moment, it is difficult to know but this weekend, the firefighters were called to intervene at the Lavalette dam leisure center. Witnesses saw unidentified objects.

The firefighters inspected the waters, from the leisure center to “Piboulet”. They found a leaking gas tank. The 1000 kg tank still had 40% gas. Sunday morning, the boat from the Grazac-Lapte rescue center and that of SDIS 43 divers searched the dam. They got their hands on a 2000 liter tank of fuel oil in which there was still a quarter of hydrocarbon remaining.

And three water heaters were also brought back to the bank at the leisure center. Firefighters had to make their way through the debris of trees and branches. The City of Saint-Etienne should be contacted, it has the necessary equipment to clean up this plant waste.
