In an interview with La Tribune Sundaythe Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, announces that Paris will use frozen Russian assets to purchase military equipment for Ukraine at the end of the year. “France has recovered 300 million euros for this end of 2024 alone,” he specifies. For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday in Kyiv. “A victory for Russia would establish the law of the strongest and would precipitate the international order towards chaos,” he declared, wishing to “advance President Zelensky’s peace plan.”
Volodymyr Zelensky’s “plan for victory” is increasingly looking like a plan to justify… the absence of victory. While his army is struggling on the front and mobilization is difficult, the Ukrainian president is already designating those responsible for the setbacks to come: “our partners”, that is to say the Westerners, at the forefront of which are the United States and Germany. The maneuver is skillful. It consists of relying on others to explain to public opinion that it will undoubtedly be necessary to lower certain ambitions and, perhaps, discuss a cease-fire with Moscow. A difficult pill to swallow after years of war and considerable human losses.
