Ligue 1 (8th day). Stade Brestois – Stade Rennais: 1-1

thought it would hold on to its victory

With this new draw, Stade Brestois has still not won at home against Stade Rennais since the 2010-2011 season. At the time, the team then coached by Alex Dupont had dominated the Rouge et Noir of Frédéric Antonetti (2-0) thanks to goals from Nolan Roux and Bruno Grougi. Since then, the Brestois have hosted eight times in the league for four draws and four defeats. Éric Roy’s men thought they would achieve a fourth consecutive home victory in the league but were surprised at the end of the match by conceding their first goal at Le Blé since on the first day. A frustrating match.

Del Castillo, uncompromising from the penalty spot

After a rather dull first period, Brest restarted the match in the best possible way by opening the score quickly (54′). On a strike from Pierre Lees-Melou, Azor Matusiwa is guilty of a handball in the area and Bastien Dechépy does not hesitate for a single second to designate the penalty spot. Even if Arnaud Kalimuendo wanted to destabilize Romain Del Castillo by trampling on the penalty spot, the Brest shooter did not tremble to deceive Steve Mandanda (54′) with a heavy strike. The former Rennais now has 13 successful penalties (including 12 with Stade Brestois) out of his 14 attempts among professionals.

Stade Rennais is doing well

Except for an attempt from Amine Gouiri at the end of the first period (45′) and another from Arnaud Kalimuendo (72′), Stade Rennais showed a worrying face to Le Blé for most of the match. Unable to endanger the Brest defense, the Rouge et Noir accelerated at the end of the match after Julien Stephan made numerous offensive changes. If Rennes was heading towards another defeat, Jota, the star recruit of the Brest transfer window, opened his counter in his new belly colors after a serve from Kalimuendo (87′) to snatch a draw. With eight points after eight days, the balance sheet remains negative but the Rennais avoid a third consecutive setback and stop the bleeding.
