In this house, he lives with his wife Anne-Christel, whom he met 25 years ago, as well as their two young children: Émilien, 7 years old, and François, 10 years old. “My wife is a pillar. She was also the one who carried out all the communication for this campaign. She was also an unwavering support for the entire team”confides the chosen one, just before Bingo, the family pug, makes an incursion into the kitchen. Hop! He sends him to the garden and continues: “According to my wife, I am a father hen, he smiled. I’m very protective of my children but I’m also very strict because I want them to do things the best they can. Mayor or not, one thing is certain, it is that I want to be able to continue to go see my children at football and remain present for them. Raphaël Dubois also has a brother three years younger, who lives in Madrid.

“I like to travel but in backpack mode”

The future mayor studied foreign trade at the HELMo Sainte-Marie Institute in Liège, but also has a degree in business management. The latter is also a travel enthusiast. After his studies, he went with his wife to Barcelona for three months and two months to Australia. “I needed a change of scenery after my studies and to take some time for myself. Otherwise, I also traveled to South Africa and Thailand where I went three times. I like to travel but always in backpack fashion.”

Supporter d’Anderlecht and amateur sports

And it is a true football fan who will take the reins of the City. “I played a little in P2 and P3 in Hodeige and Limont but I mainly played in the reserve team with friends. For me, that’s my football. It’s football with friends. I don’t I’ve never been very good… I’m even very bad in fact”laughs the football fan, who plays as a midfielder. He is also a supporter of the Anderlecht team, “even if I don’t know how to go see them much anymore. It was my father who gave me the “virus”.” The Waremmian is also a fan of tennis, volleyball and running. “I dream of doing a marathon.”

“I thought a lot about my dad on election night”

Politically, Raphaël Dubois was a candidate for the first time in 2006. But why did he enter politics? It is the father of Stéphane Melin (Editor’s note: member of the Pour Waremme group), who died today and who was his godfather, who suggested that he join the MR list in Waremme. It was June 2006. “He suggested it to me knowing that I had been in youth movements and that I had carried out projects all over Waremme with an improvisation troupe.” In love with his city and already interested in politics, he accepts, and is joined in particular by the woman who will become his wife.

Today, Waremmien is cabinet secretary to Walloon Minister-President Adrien Dolimont. “It’s a lot of work but I want to find an arrangement so that I can be at the commune every day in my role as mayor, that’s for sure.” Two years ago, when he was appointed chief of staff, in parallel with his position as alderman, Raphaël Dubois experienced some health problems. “The Waremmians can be reassured, it is managed.”

On election night and in the days that followed, the elected official received numerous congratulatory messages. And which one made him the most happy? “It’s mom’s. Many told me that my father, who was already super happy when I became a councilor, would have been proud of me. I thought a lot about my dad on election night.”
