THE MORNING LIST

While Art Basel , the international contemporary art fair heir to FIAC, makes its comeback, from October 18 to 20, under the glass roof of the newly restored Grand Palais, the world of design is multiplying exhibitions and events in the capital . Enough to seduce collectors from all over the world, always eager for new things.

The opportunity is given to discover new talents, like those unearthed by Nadia Candet for Private Choice, notably Hermine Torikian and her joyfully colored wood marquetry furniture, or improbable places, rarely open to the public, like the Hôtel de Maisons , known as “de Pozzo di Borgo”, a historic residence near Saint-Germain-des-Près, which is hosting the second edition of Design Miami Paris, with exceptional pieces from around twenty French, Italian and American galleries.

On one side, an 18th century mansione century, near Saint-Germain-des-Prés, which still haunts, on the first floor, the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld who lived there. On the other, exceptional furniture from the XXe and 21e centuries signed by the biggest names, such as Charlotte Perriand, Carlo Mollino, Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne. For its second edition, the Design Miami Paris fair welcomes new exhibitors: the Minimasterpiece gallery and its artist jewelry, with exclusive pieces signed by designers Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance or Mathilde Bretillot. Or the Gastou and Desprez-Bréhéret galleries, which, together, brought together rare creations by Jean Touret for Les Artisans de Marolles, an artisanal furniture cooperative of which he was the artistic director.

Design Miami Paris, from October 16 to 19, at the Hôtel de Maisons (7e arrondissement).

Ronan Bouroullec: mystical creations

Flou Mirror, in cast glass, and Candelabra console, in granite and galvanized steel, by Ronan Bouroullec, exhibited at the Kreo gallery, in Paris. ALEXANDRA DE COSSETTE / KREO GALLERY

Tables iridescent like water, steel candlesticks straight like i’s and mirrors with ghostly reflections: Ronan Bouroullec continues his quest for mystical objects, after having, in the summer of 2023, fitted out the Saint-Michel chapel from Brasparts (Finistère). This new collection of everyday objects, published in limited numbers by the Germanopratine Kreo gallery, calls on the same craftsmen: the artistic ironworker Mathieu Cabioch or the stonemason Christophe Chini in , and the glassmakers from Glas Italia, in Italy. Ronan Bouroullec uses a restricted vocabulary with three materials as old as time (granite, metal and glass) in three colors (garnet, sea green and silver) in the style of the painter Jan Van Eyck (around 1390-1441), Flemish Renaissance painter. beauty has a weight, like this silver cast glass mirror, of almost 100 kilos.
