Three dead and two people seriously injured in a head-on collision on a Tarn road

A terrible accident occurred Sunday morning on a departmental road in the south of Tarn. Three people died and two other injured victims were treated by emergency services.

A head-on collision between two vehicles occurred this Sunday morning shortly after 9 a.m. on the RD112, near the town of Teyssode, on a long straight line approximately 5 km from Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux. An accident with “very high kinetics” according to the Tarn departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS 81).

According to initial findings, the driver of a Peugeot vehicle suddenly veered into the left lane, for reasons still unknown. Opposite, a Mercedes car arrived from Lavaur, with four people on board. The shock was extremely violent.

A Smur helicopter was engaged by the emergency services.

The driver of the first vehicle, a 57-year-old woman from Damiatte, died. In the Mercedes, the driver, seriously injured, was extricated by emergency services and evacuated to a hospital aboard a Smur helicopter. Among its passengers, two octogenarians died while the third, also seriously injured, was evacuated to hospital.

Firefighters and police are on site, as well as the mayor of Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux, Laurent Vandendriessche.

The road was closed to traffic.

Traffic on the RD112 has been completely cut off. A diversion coming from Lavaur has been set up through Damiatte by the gendarmerie and the departmental roads service.
