Benoît Pelletier receives the Justice Prize posthumously

Former minister and professor Benoît Pelletier received Tuesday, posthumously, the Quebec Justice Prize for the year 2023. This is the highest honorary distinction in the legal community.

His wife, Danièle Goulet, was present in Quebec to receive the honor on behalf of her husband, who passed away on March 30 at the age of 64, and on behalf of their four children.

During her speech, Mrs. Goulet wanted to highlight the extent to which her husband loved much the society in which we live to want to devote so much time and energy to it.

It is this love of society that guided Benoît Pelletier in his duties as MP for Chapleau, from 1998 to 2008, and in his various ministerial positions, including as Minister of Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs.

He intensely participated in public reflection on the Quebec nation and also had two other lovesi.e. constitutional law and the French language.

May he receive the 2023 Justice Prize marks in an exceptional way Benoît’s professional career as well as his personal contribution to Quebec society, which he loved; he was so proud to belong to it and to be able to contribute to its developmentestimates his wife.

Ending her speech, Danièle Goulet confided that Benoît Pelletier still had one wish: that Quebec defines itself in its own constitution.

Two exceptional men

During the same ceremony, the 2022 Justice Prize was awarded to Pierre Noreau, professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Montreal, who notably knew bring together a large number of actors from the legal community around its ideaspraised the Quebec Ministry of Justice.

The current Minister of Justice of Quebec, Simon Jolin-Barrette, expressed his gratitude to these two exceptional men [qui] fought for the protection and advancement of the rights of all of us.

I am honored to be able to present this distinction to two great men who knew how to evolve our justice systemadded the minister.
