Big accident on the E40 in Battice: the customs motorcyclist died instantly

A serious accident occurred this Thursday morning around 10 a.m. on the E40 (A3) motorway, towards Aachen, after the Battice interchange at kilometer marker 112.3. It involved a semi-trailer registered in Hungary, a car registered in Denmark and a motorcycle.

Men from the Vesdre-Hoëgne & Plateau emergency zone intervened on site as well as an ambulance from Plateau, an ambulance from Verviers and the SMUR from Eupen. Unfortunately, the motorcyclist, a man born in 1984, died instantly. “He had a group of three motorcyclists from the customs services in training: a trainer and two students. One of the students collided mainly with this semi-trailer and died instantly”indicates the duty magistrate of the Liège public prosecutor’s office.

The automobile expert dispatched to the scene has already been able to deliver his conclusions. “It’s clear, he has visible traces and, above all, he was able to see the video (Editor’s note: from the Perex center). Responsibility lies with the motorcyclist who loses control in the bend, crosses the line and cuts the road at the truck. The truck tries to avoid it by swerving but does not succeed. And with this attempt, it hits the car.”

The left lane was blocked and the situation was dangerous for motorists until mid-afternoon. Access from the E42/A27 (towards Germany) was also closed for a few hours.

At 2 p.m., the road was clear again and traffic was normalized according to the federal police and its site inforoutes.be.
