We had a bit of a weird minute at the Budapest Athletics World Championships this Thursday evening. Behind the scenes first. As she waited in the “waiting room” to find out if she was drafted on time after her series over 200 meters, Anthony Strachan was surprised by Youhuu, the event’s mascot. The latter had hidden behind his armchair and gave him a good fright. Worth a big leap to the Bahamian athlete.
In the process, we were treated to an event a little more worrying. The now famous carts that transport the athletes from the warm-up stage to the competition stage had a mishap… Two of them collided, sending a volunteer to the ground and famously shaking the athletes on board. These were the sprinters who went to the stadium to compete in the series of 200 meters, with in particular Noah Lyles. Jamaican Andrew Hudson seemed to complain about the eye.
These athletes were scheduled for the first of three 200m semi-finals. The three-race program started with the second half, no doubt to give everyone time to come to their senses.
Fortunately, all this ended rather well, but it’s still not ideal as preparation before a race…
