E-bike driver died after accident

The Bernese Cantonal Police were informed on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, shortly after 4:00 p.m., that a traffic accident involving an e-bike and a car had occurred in Unterseen on Seestrasse.

According to current knowledge, an e-bike driver was traveling on this road from Thun in the direction of Interlaken. At the Gelbenbrunnen viewpoint, for an as yet undetermined reason, she ended up in the opposite lane and collided head-on with a car. The seriously injured e-bike driver received first aid from an ambulance team immediately dispatched to the scene. She was eventually airlifted to hospital by a Rega crew. Despite the care received, she died there of her injuries on Wednesday July 5, 2023 at the end of the morning. The deceased is a 64-year-old American living in the United States.

During the engagement, several specialized services of the Bernese cantonal police intervened as well as the fire brigade of Bödeli. The Care Team of the canton of Bern has also been engaged in order to support those affected.

An investigation has been opened by the Bernese cantonal police under the direction of the Bern-Mittelland regional public prosecutor’s office in order to clarify the causes and circumstances of the accident.
