The accused, Fabrice C., a 39-year-old man, faces up to 30 years of criminal imprisonment.
The case dates back to 2022. On the night of September 30 to October 1, a young man aged 26 at the time of the events was shot at the exit of the Eden Club nightclub, then located on Boulevard Sergent-Triaire, a few meters from the station. The victim, injured in the groin, escaped with two months of ITT.
An attack against a backdrop of romantic rivalry?
But what happened that night? This is what the Gard Assize Court will try to determine during the trial which opens this Monday, January 27 and lasts until the next day, Tuesday 28. The accused, Fabrice C., a 39-year-old from Réunion at the time and already known by the police for acts of violence in particular, will be arrested immediately. During his hearings, he will provide several versions as to the reason which would have pushed him to take out a gun and shoot the victim. He mentions in particular an attack a few hours earlier, in the nightclub, where several people allegedly attacked him and insulted him. The shooting would therefore have occurred as part of self-defense, denying any criminal intent in his act.
-Up to 30 years of criminal imprisonment
But during the investigation, another motive was mentioned: that of a romantic rivalry. It would appear that excessive jealousy towards his ex-partner was at the origin of the facts. In this case, Fabrice C., defended by Me Marie Santimaria, is therefore accused of attempted murder and unauthorized possession of category B weapons and ammunition. He faces up to 30 years of criminal imprisonment. The civil party is represented by Me Abdelghani Merah.
