Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine was ready to transport gas from Azerbaijan. The Ukrainian head of state made these remarks during a joint press conference with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, reports an Ukrinform correspondent.
“As for the gas. We discussed it with Ilham (Aliev – editor’s note) in Switzerland. The current production capacity (of Azerbaijan – editor’s note) is around 40 billion cubic meters, while domestic consumption is around 14-15 billion. Exports to Azerbaijan are significant, with a capacity of around 25 billion cubic meters. We discussed the possibility of exporting via Ukraine. Ukraine exports its gas to many countries and could use our infrastructure if other Eastern European countries need it,” Zelensky said.
The president stressed that there would be no extension of the Russian gas export contract. “Legally, we are not violating anything, and morally, we are absolutely right. We don’t allow Russians to make money. We are happy to let Azerbaijanis benefit from their production,” the Ukrainian head of state said.
As reported, the transit agreement for the transportation of Russian gas to Europe via the Ukrainian gas transportation system expired on December 31.
-On January 22, in Davos, Volodymyr Zelensky discussed with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev the development of bilateral relations, including cooperation in the energy sector.
