The UN denounces the use of “methods of war” by Israel in Jenin

The United Nations (UN) denounced on Friday Israel’s use “methods of war” et “unlawful use of deadly force” in Jenin, in the West Bank.

The Office confirmed that at least 12 Palestinians have been killed and 40 injured by Israeli security forces since Tuesday, “most of them apparently unarmed”.

Israeli operations “raise serious concerns about unnecessary or disproportionate use of force, in particular methods and means developed for war, in violation of international human rights law, norms and standards applicable to peacekeeping operations order »said Thameen Al-Kheetan, spokesperson for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva.

Since the start of the week, the Israeli army has launched a major operation against the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank.

Supported by bulldozers, planes and armored military vehicles, soldiers launched this operation called “Iron Wall” on Tuesday, two days after the start of a truce in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.

Among the injured are a doctor and two nurses, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent, underlines the UN, which is calling for an independent investigation which must hold those responsible to account.
