Putin and Zelensky, “equally” responsible

US President Donald Trump has said that Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky are equally responsible for the war.

In an interview with Fox News, he claimed that Ukraine is fighting a much bigger battle. “You know, if he [Zelensky] is an angel, he should not have allowed this war to take place. First of all, he’s fighting against a much bigger entity (…) When he was talking, you know, so brave (…) two things happened, they were brave but we gave them billions of dollars.”

According to him, the United States spent 200 billion dollars more than Europe. “Because Biden never asked Europe to spend more.” Donald Trump also reiterated his intention to sanction Russia if no peace agreement is reached.

The American president argued during the World Economic Forum in Davos that lowering oil prices would lead to an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine. In this sense, Ukraine encouraged Donald Trump to put pressure on Russia by lowering oil prices, so that Moscow would end the war.

Ukrainian presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak said on X: “We fully support the President of the United States in his efforts to lower oil prices.”

In recent weeks, Volodymyr Zelensky has discussed with European leaders the sending of NATO peacekeeping troops to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire, ruling that at least 200,000 European troops should be deployed.

Russia strongly opposes this idea, fearing an “uncontrolled escalation”.
