In 2024, used vehicles saw their price drop on average by -7.1%, a decrease of €1,590 compared to 2023, to reach an average price of €20,990.
Over the year, vehicles aged 2 to 4 years recorded the largest drop among all age groups, with an average decrease of -8.7%, the equivalent of €2,000.
However, these annual declines should be put into perspective in view of the rebalancing observed in the second half of 2024 where the average price of used vehicles remained stable for the first time in two years according to the La Centrale Observatory.
This price stabilization is observed in the last quarter of 2024 for all vehicles less than 15 years old.
Second-hand electricity is becoming more and more advantageous
In 2024, the prices of used electric vehicles saw a very sharp drop, of around -17.4% over the year, or an average reduction of €4,600. In this segment, prices adjust quickly.
This is explained by a significant diversification of the offer of new electric vehicles, particularly with the arrival of small, more affordable city cars, and by the evolution of battery technology which contributes to the faster obsolescence of used electric vehicles. .
-« We are seeing a strong diversification in the range of vehicles from 0 to 2 years old, now made up of a third of electric vehicles. Half of electric vehicles are offered for less than €20,000 on the platform, and 90% of these same vehicles have less than 60,000 kilometers. explains Anaïs Harmant, Marketing Director of La Centrale.
The price of hybrids is also falling
Finally, due to their massive arrival on the second-hand market, hybrid vehicles also experienced a significant depreciation in 2024: the price of gasoline hybrids fell by -8.7% or €3,100 and that of diesel hybrids of -5.3% or €3,001.
The price of gasoline and diesel vehicles is stabilizing
The price of diesel vehicles is also experiencing a downward trend over the year 2024 with a decrease of -10.7% in 2024, or €2,900.
Petrol vehicles also saw their prices fall by -7.7% over the year, with a reduction of €1,500.
