Ten days before the end of the winter transfer window, Stade Malherbe is still looking for several recruits. Bruno Baltazar knows this and recognizes that the task is not simple. He claims to be very involved in the research process and even announces having spoken to several players likely to join his group by February 3, 2025.

SM Caen less attractive?

“We have identified players, and the negotiations are already very advanced, but unfortunately, it is not over,” says Bruno Baltazar, coach of SM Caen. I have already spoken with two players and the message is clear: they must come with ambition and total commitment. »

In addition to the difficulty of the transfer window itself, Stade Malherbe faces another difficulty: its seduction factor. If Bruno Baltazar does not doubt the reputation of the club, he admits that the sporting situation is not not very attractive. “Of course if we can play the climb rather than the maintenance, it could seem more interesting,” explains the Portuguese technician. But the message is clear between me, Reda Hammache (recruitment director at SMC) and management. We want to bring the quality and mentality we need to get out of this situation. »

Bruno Baltazar also warns about the potential casting errors. The players available during the winter transfer window are often players little or not used and therefore lacking rhythm. But SM Caen needs players able to contribute upon arrival.

We know that the players who can come in the January transfer window are in situations in which something is not working at their club. That’s why it takes time to find the quality we’re missing.

No new player will therefore be part of the Malherbistes’ next match, this Friday January 24, at Caen-Guingamp (8 p.m.).

Who will leave?

We must also consider the opposite case. Players who could leave Stade Malherbe by February 3. Some players are being courted, others at the end of their contract. Still others are little used. Anyway, Bruno Baltazar repeated his wish to reduce the number of players in his group. “To have quality in the work, you need to have around twenty players, no more,” explains the Caen coach. We spoke with some to find a solution, whether permanent or on loan. »

Here too, it may be necessary show patience so that everything settles. Bruno Baltazar insists on the fact that parting with certain elements will be positive for everyone. The Portuguese coach thinks of all the elements of his group.

You have to respect the players. Some will, in theory, play less from now on and we have to think about them, about their career. We have to find a solution so that they continue to play, to progress. This is also the interest of the transfer window.

With a complicated schedule in the coming weeks (three members of the Top 6 over the next four days), Stade Malherbe faces a considerable challenge. Reinforcements are hoped for before the transfer market closes, and the sooner the better.
