The news is official: the streaming service Netflix announces that it is increasing the prices of the Standard packages with or without advertising as well as the Premium package. The respective increases of $2, $2.50 and $3 have been effective since January 22, 2025.
Netflix appeared in Canada in 2010, more than 10 years ago. To think that at that time, it only cost $7.99 monthly to take advantage of the platform.
Since then, this is far from the first time that the content distribution giant has increased the price of its packages. After an increase in 2020, then in 2022 and now a new increase has been announced.
More screens, more quality, more money to spend
Unlike Netflix’s latest increase from January 2022, all plans are seeing a price increase.
- The Standard package with advertising goes from $5.99 to $7.99 plus taxes per month.
- The Standard package without advertising goes from $16.49 to $18.99 plus taxes per month.
- The Premium plan goes from $20.99 to $23.99 plus taxes per month.
As a reminder, the different broadcast plans include:
-- Standard with advertising:Video quality in HD 1080p and the ability to view and download content on 2 devices at once.
- Standard without advertising: Video quality in HD 1080p and the ability to view content on 2 devices at once.
- Premium: Video quality in Ultra HD 4K + HDRimmersive spatial sound, possibility of downloading content on 6 devices and the possibility of viewing content on 4 devices at once.
According to a letter sent to shareholders, these increases are due to investments in programming.
The news will surely raise some eyebrows, while Netflix is not to be pitied. Even if the offer is more diversified than ever with other important players such as Crave, Disney + or Amazon Prime, they remain at the head of the queue.
All subscribers should see the increase on their next billing cycle.
