Serpentine in Metz: the Graoully takes shape

Finally ! We can now get a little idea of what Graoully will look like. The dragon begins to take up residence on rue Serpenoise. The aluminum arches are gradually bolted inside the twelve islands. And the plantings shouldn’t be long.

Visibly happy, François Grosdidier. He must have been impatient to see “the beast take shape,” as he said. The mayor of Metz observes the first metal elements screwed inside one of the twelve islands of the Serpentine which, as its name suggests, is rue Serpenoise. It must be said that since the creation of these islets lined with Corrèze granite, the construction site had taken a winter break. We can now get a (small) idea of what the famous Graoully will look like.

Easily washable

The Métalobil company, located near , delivered the first arches which symbolize the dragon. Aluminum parts welded end to end and covered with a special powder coating. Objective: that the animal does not get too dirty and that it can be washed easily. The islets will receive trees, plants and earth from which the Graoully will come out. The entire structure should be finalized in June.

In the meantime, the installation of these arches attracts customers and questions. Like Jérôme Tragus, from Bourg-en-Bresse. “I am passing through Metz, a city that I left 25 years ago. I asked the workers what this work consisted of, and I must say that I love the idea of creating a Graoully…” but it will remain conceptual, at least for the day. At night, on the other hand, a video projector will broadcast the image of the dragon on its head made of metal, at the entrance to rue Serpenoise, on the République side. Enough to humanize the beast.
