Another page of history is turning for the Théâtre du Rideau Vert with the announcement of the upcoming departure of artistic director Denise Filiatrault after 21 years of loyal service.

Her faithful accomplice in this adventure, the general director Céline Marcotte, will leave at the same time as Mme Filiatrault, on June 30. Mme Marcotte has been in office for 17 years.

The general director, Céline Marcotte, and the artistic director, Denise Filiatrault, will leave the Théâtre du Rideau Vert at the same time on June 30, 2025, the first after 17 years in her position and the second, after 21 years.

-Denise Filiatrault relaunched the Rideau Vert, signed dozens of productions there, in addition to bringing back musical comedies, noted the institution on Wednesday, paying tribute to the illustrious 94-year-old artist.
Tireless, determined and dedicated to her art, Denise Filiatrault did not go very far, since she was named godmother of the theater founded in 1948 by Yvette Brind’Amour and Mercedes Palomino.
“After more than 20 years of an exceptional adventure as artistic director of the Théâtre du Rideau Vert, it is with great emotion that I am preparing to turn this page of my life. I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart our loyal audience, who have been a constant source of inspiration, as well as the artists, artisans, partners and collaborators, whose unwavering support has allowed our theater to shine. It was a privilege and a joy to share this passion with all of you,” said Denise Filiatrault.

It was explained on Wednesday, in a press release, that the Rideau Vert wishes to take advantage of the next chapter which will be written with a new tandem at its head to “instill new energy while respecting the heritage for which the Theater is renowned”.
The process to find the successors of Denise Filiatrault and Céline Marcotte is already underway.
“Thanks to her commitment and determination, Denise Filiatrault has allowed the Théâtre du Rideau Vert to remain an essential reference in Quebec theater and to shine more than ever. By naming her godmother, we wish not only to recognize her immense contribution, but also to keep her close to us, in the Rideau Vert family. We express our deepest gratitude to him for these years of exceptional dedication, passion and creativity,” underlined the president of the board of directors, Sylvie Cordeau.
