Australian Open > Shelton’s big rant after his qualification in the semis: “The guy who made fun of Djokovic, I don’t think it was an isolated event. I was a little shocked this week by the way players were treated by broadcasters”

As his press conference ended, after his victory against Lorenzo Sonego in Melbourne, synonymous with qualification for the semi‐finals of the Australian Open, Ben Shelton decided to send a message.

“There is one thing I would like to say before I finish. I was a little shocked this week by the way the players were treated by the broadcasters. The guy who made fun of Novak Djokovic, I don’t think it was an isolated event. I’ve noticed this with several players, not just me. I am thinking in particular of Learner Tien, during his post‐match interview when he beat (Daniil) Medvedev. I found it embarrassing and disrespectful (…) Broadcasters are there to help us develop our sport and help athletes who have just won a match on the biggest court to enjoy one of the most beautiful moments of their career. I think there has been a lot of negativity. I think that needs to change. »
