In fact, free access implies a certain fragility in the face of the vagaries of the weather. “The only money coming in is the bar and the small restaurant. If it rains, it’s over. We have a pseudo-fallback place, a gym. But that’s of no interest, it’s just played out in the street.” And to put things into perspective, optimistically: “I say that we have a small budget, because we are important for small companies. But we offer a reception of so-called dates of “heated“not too expensive.”
The Tornadoes Festival is also in collaboration with Sortilèges, in Ath and with Namur in May. “Companies come through our house and go to play there. It’s the beauty of street arts to exchange artists.”
A program being finalized
The final touches are being placed on the street arts programming for this festival located in Wihéries, next June. Guillaume Delcourt still shares some information with us. “A fairly specific show is going to take place. It’s called “Belgican Rhapsodie”. The artist has a 40-year career and has toured the planet. He plays music with unusual objects, like beer bottles.”
-“We worked with him in a room, and he makes use of any material. He creates a melody, a musical structure around it, with the logic of a street arts show. There is real work , which he has already played at the Avignon festival.”
Moreover, a new space will be invested during this 2025 edition, on the six stages in total. “We are going to take over a school playground. We will bring the public from the usual place to the courtyard. It will be a show by the Compagnie du plat pays on incivility, in a burlesque way, with a humorous side. Artists from the Le Leû de Honnelles festival. The narrative is very well done.” For any further information, visit the festival website.
