Owen Beck has his chance to take root within the Montreal Canadiens’ attack since certain players on the team may well not finish the year in the Quebec metropolis.
The 20-year-old played his second career game in the National Hockey League on Saturday, his first in two years. He was discreet during his playing time of 8 min 13 s, but his presence in the lineup says a lot for the future.

“It’s three, four minutes more than what [Michael] Pezzetta had with the Canadian. We have to be honest, it’s not over badly for Pezzetta unless there are three, four injured,” assured columnist Tony Marinaro to JiCmardi.
Beyond Pezzetta, whose minutes on the ice have been very limited since the start of the season, Beck could go after another veteran’s job sooner rather than later, Marinaro believes.
-“Beck, it’s good to see him, because I don’t think [Christian] Dvorak ends the season with the Canadian. There are some who think that if the Canadian is in the mixhe’s not going to trade anyone to keep everyone here […]but it’s good to see Owen Beck here because it’s him, eventually, who will take Dvorak’s place,” he predicted.
Everything should depend on the role the Canadian plays at the trade deadline. If he sells, some young people will inherit additional responsibilities. If he buys, ineffective players could be used as bargaining chips.
Beck, who is third in scoring for the Laval Rocket with 25 points in 37 games, must be at the top of the list.
