A history and geography teacher at a college in the Montbéliard region (Doubs) was threatened with death by a student for showing Charlie Hebdo caricatures during a moral and civic education course.
The Minister of National Education Élisabeth Borne sent her “support to the teacher at the Besançon academy who was threatened with death after showing caricatures from Charlie Hebdo”, this Tuesday, January 21.

“The situation was immediately taken into account. An article 40 was sent to the prosecutor. Functional protection was immediately granted”, wrote Élisabeth Borne who specifies “that a precautionary measure was taken against the author and a disciplinary council is scheduled.”
The 13-year-old student, excluded the same day as the incident while awaiting a disciplinary hearing, was placed in police custody for “death threats against a person responsible for a public service mission”. During the hearing she admitted having said these words to the professor but indicated that she simply wanted to play a joke on him. She denied any intention of threatening.
-“I congratulate the rectorate and the establishment for their responsiveness. No threats against teachers, no challenges to freedom of expression will be tolerated!”, continued the Minister of Education.
