“It remains a beautiful story for her…” Coralie Paterni is slowly starting to breathe after five days of strong tension. Long moments during which she no longer recognized her 7-year-old daughter. Deprived of her “more than sacred” blanket, Evy, diagnosed as “autistic with intellectual precocity”, no longer had a taste for anything.
“She was no longer smiling. She remained prostrate on the sofa, without eating,” says this mother living in Florange, in Moselle. A few kilometers where it all started, last Thursday. “I was at my fitness club in Yutz when, on leaving, I couldn’t find my car keys,” she rewinds. “However, I was convinced that I had put them in my coat pocket which was in a code locker. »
The vehicle was no longer in the parking lot. “It was panic, especially when I realized that the cuddly toy was on board,” continues the thirty-year-old, who was not able to hide this loss for long. Especially since the precious stuffed toy was accompanied by another, “soft toy friend”, almost as important.
“I tried to give him another one but it was an immediate crisis. She was screaming, hitting the seat of my father’s car, refusing everything… It was horrible,” continues Coralie Paterni, who then logically filed a complaint. Then launched a call for help, widely relayed, on social networks. Each time alongside Evy, who absolutely wanted to follow the case closely.
“This media coverage helped us because we saw that it touched people. She also heard his story on the radio, that helped a little,” explains the mother, who finally learned the first good news on Friday. “The police called me to tell me that my car had been found in a neighborhood in Yutz. But it was on fire so it was a bit of a cold shower. »
“She finally had a smile”
But on Monday, the outcome was happier. “At the mechanic, I went directly to look inside the vehicle and the cuddly toy was on the back seat, where we had left it. A little yellowed by the fire but intact, like a cuddly friend,” smiles the Mosellane. “I called my daughter by video to tell her and I saw her relief in her eyes. She finally had a smile…”

Since then, and after trips to the washing machine and dryer, the stuffed animals have found their usual arms. “She doesn’t want to let go of them,” says the one who is an after-school leader. Evy should finally be able to return to her class on Thursday. “I warned that she would surely have her comfort blanket, the school agrees,” concludes Coralie Paterni, relieved at this happy ending. Even if this should have consequences… “We were making progress on cuddly toys and lollipops. It’s complicated with a very sensitive child… The thieves ruined everything. We start again from zero. »
