Black series for the cinema. After the announcement of the death of director David Lynch on Friday January 17, it is the turn of French filmmaker Bertrand Blier, director notably of THE Waltzes, Evening wear, Prepare your tissues or Buffet froid to bow out on January 21. Known for his dark humor, the 85-year-old director is at the origin of several brand advertising sagas in the 1990s. Including the iconic advertisements for the Yoplait brand and its Yop product, like the spot “J’ I spat in it” broadcast in 1996.
Yop, a saga of 4 films
Bertrand Blier brought back the cover for drinking yogurt in 1997 with the “Le pinball” advertisement in which the actor Lorànt Deutsch appeared. Two more spots followed for the brand, in 1999: “Le boxer” and “À bout de souffle”.
Like many directors, Bertrand Blier’s motivations are pragmatic, recalls an article from Echoes : “For me, advertising is first and foremost about food”he used to declare.
His first ads: the 3 Suisses
In 1991, Bertrand Blier produced his first advertising spot for the distance selling specialist (VAD) Les 3 Suisses. Signed BDDP, the “The Car” campaign features a woman’s confession – “Darling, I hit the car!” » – whose interpretation changes depending on the outfits she has just bought in the 3 Suisses catalog.

In 1994, still with BDDP, the campaign went a step further in audacity. In “The Deceived Woman”, an armed woman threatens (and shoots) her unfaithful husband. “Pure” Bertrand Blier.
His most prolific collaboration: La Poste
“It doesn’t say La Poste here.” This gimmick is in all of Bertrand Blier’s advertisements for La Poste. This is not the only common point in this saga of seven advertisements in which celebrities intervene: Antoine de Caunes, Jacques Villeret, Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Jacques François, Ticky Holgado, Michel Galabru, Bernard Menez, Catherine Jacob or, again, Michel Boujenah.
