World No.2 Alexander Zverev beat, this Tuesday, January 21, the American Tommy Paul (11th) in four sets to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open, where he will face the winner of the clash between Novak Djokovic (7th) and Carlos Alcaraz (3rd), scheduled for the evening.
The German won 7-6 (1), 7-6 (0), 2-6, 6-1 against Paul, his first victory in three meetings against the American.
Zverev had to work against Paul, who led 6-5, service to follow in the first set and 5-2 in the second, before the German managed to turn things around to win the two opening sets.

He will face in the last four the ten-time winner of the Australian Open Novak Djokovic or the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who at 21 can become the youngest winner of the four Grand Slam tournaments if he wins the title. Their quarter-final is scheduled for Tuesday evening in Melbourne.
-At 27, the Olympic champion of the Tokyo Games in 2021 qualified for the third semi-final of his career at the Australian Open, after that of 2020 lost against Dominic Thiem (now retired) and that of 2024 where he was beaten by Daniil Medvedev (5th).
With now 30 matches won in Melbourne since the start of his career, Zverev on Tuesday became the German player to have won the most singles in history at the Australian Open, ahead of Boris Becker (29).

But unlike the former world No.1, winner of six Grand Slam tournaments including two Australian Opens (1991, 1996), Zverev is still looking for his first major title.
