LIVE – Donald Trump officially inaugurated President of the United States: the evening continues on LCI

International heads of state are beginning to congratulate Donald Trump on his second term in the White House. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated him and hoped for “just peace” in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was “open to dialogue” on Ukraine to achieve a “lasting peace”, three years after launching an attack on his neighbor.

“I would like to emphasize that the objective should not be a brief truce (…) but a lasting peace,” he said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also congratulated him, promising “the happiest days” of relations between the two countries in the years to come.

Indian President Narendra Modi said he was “looking forward”, in a message published on X, to “working closely again” with Donald Trump in order to “build a better future for the world” which “will benefit both our countries “. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for the continuation of “good transatlantic relations” with the United States, Germany’s “closest ally”. Giorgia Meloni, Italian Prime Minister, sent him her “best wishes”.

“We are stronger when we act together,” declared Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “Canada and the United States maintain the most fruitful economic partnership in the world and are each other’s largest trading partner,” recalled the head of government of Canada, who fears that the American president will carried out its threat to impose customs duties of 25%.
