Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has expressed his admiration for Chelsea legend Eden Hazard, saying the Belgian is a superior footballer to Mohamed Salah. Jones, who grew up idolizing Hazard, noted that the former Chelsea striker embodied the essence of football and placed team success above individual accolades.
During a recent interview at Liverpool’s AXA training center, conducted by Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, Jones was asked about his footballing idol. He replied: “For me, and I know this might upset some of our fans because of the comparisons, it’s Hazard. Hazard is the best. I know he’s often compared to Mo Salah and I had discussions with Mo. As a football fan since my childhood, I think Hazard was the player who made me say: ‘wow, this is football’ every time I saw him play .”

Jones added: “I wouldn’t say he’s underrated, but he might not be included in some discussions that he actually deserves to be a part of. That’s a conversation I’ve had with Mo and the rest of the team. As a footballer, do I believe Hazard is better than Mo? But who would you like to have in your team? Most would choose Mo because of his goals and assists.”
Eden Hazard enjoyed an exceptional career at Chelsea from 2012 to 2019, displaying exceptional dribbling and creative play, resulting in 110 goals and 85 assists in 352 matches. He was instrumental in winning six trophies for the club, including two Premier League titles.
-Hazard’s dream move to Real Madrid took place in the summer of 2019. Unfortunately, injuries and a significant drop in form led to his surprising retirement at the age of 32.
In contrast, Mohamed Salah has cemented his stature as one of the best wingers in Premier League history. At 32, the Liverpool right-winger is celebrated for his finishing efficiency, pace and playmaking skills, offering a different footballing profile to Hazard.
Despite prioritizing Hazard’s technical prowess, Curtis Jones later took to social media to clarify his preference for Salah in his team. Salah is in great form this season, having scored 21 goals and provided 17 assists in 30 games, playing a crucial role in Liverpool’s quest for multiple trophies, as they currently sit top of the Premier League and La Liga champions.
Salah has racked up an impressive tally of 232 goals and 105 assists in 379 games in all competitions since joining Liverpool in 2017. His contributions have also been instrumental in helping the Reds to eight major trophies and played a vital role in the Jones’ development at Anfield since his debut in 2019.
