Accused of having exaggerated his skills on Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2, the CEO of Tesla ended up admitting to having used secondary accounts. A revelation that shocked the gaming community.
A controversy has been raging for several days around Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of The Entrepreneur portrayed himself as a top player on Diablo IV and Path of Exile 2, but recent evidence has suggested he may have exaggerated his accomplishments. The problem started when Musk claimed to be among the world’s top 20 Diablo IV players. A claim greeted with skepticism, given the time required to reach such a rank. And although the man achieved a high rank on an unofficial leaderboard for a specific endgame level in Diablo IV, that ranking was based on a narrow metric and involved only a small fraction of the game’s millions of active players.
-Doubts intensified when Musk started playing Path of Exile 2. Despite reaching high levels with his characters, dubbed “Kekius_Maximus” and “Percy_Verence”, his gameplay on a livestream seemed to show a lack of fundamental understanding of game mechanics. Then the most damning evidence appeared in a message exchange with YouTuber NikoWrex. In these messages, Musk apparently admitted to asking other people to play on his account to level up his characters in Path of Exile 2 and Diablo 4. He justified this by saying that he was “impossible to beat Asian players without account sharing”. And to specify that when he streams or publishes videos, it is “100% moi” Who’s playing. Why is Musk, a man living in the United States, playing on an Asian server? This question will remain unanswered. At any rate, Sharing your account details with anyone else violates Blizzard’s Terms of Service. However, Musk does not seem to see any disadvantage in this situation: “Why would I apologize to the PoE community? And who are their elected representatives lol?“
Should we ban Elon Musk?
The video of the DM exchange has been viewed more than 2.3 million times and Musk’s confession understandably sparked outrage in the gaming community, with many accusing him of dishonesty. Streamer Asmongold directly challenged Musk to prove that he personally raised his Path of Exile 2 character to level 97. Asmongold said that if Musk could prove it, he would stream on X for an entire year. Other prominent figures in the gaming world have also criticized the businessman. Despite the public admission, Grinding Gear Games, the developers of Path of Exile 2, have not commented on the situation. Still, some observers believe Musk’s account should be banned, as would happen with an ordinary player caught cheating.
