Guest of the Grand Rendez-Vous CNEWS-Europe 1 this Sunday, the former European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton assured that France was “the world champion of tax pressure”.
“If raising taxes allowed us to be the best in the world in economics, it would be known, we should be world champions. But no. We are the last students in Europe,” he added.
a hard blow for businesses
According to him, the succession of French governments in 2024 has not helped France. “The image of our country with regard to its public finances and its capacity to make a budget is still degraded in Europe and in the world,” he noted.
-Thierry Breton estimated that the French situation was no longer tenable for businesses. “We have had 4 governments in 1 year. (…) It is time for this to stop to give visibility to companies, because many of them are today at a standstill as far as investments are concerned.
“They are waiting to see things more clearly and to know what their taxes will be,” he concluded.
