Tao Geoghegan Hart wants to make a notable comeback a few weeks before the start of 2025. The Briton has experienced many struggles over the last two seasons. In 2023, his season ended following a fractured femur after a heavy fall on the Tour of Italy. Last year, the runner of the Lidl-Trek fell on the Critérium du Dauphiné before being affected by Covid-19 and thus had to resign himself to watching the Tour de France at home. So for 2025, before talking about participation in a Grand Tour, the Londoner knows that“There are steps to take, which are to be competitive, even in small races.”

“Focus on getting back to my best level”
Asked by CyclingNews before the start of the season which should take place on the Return to the Algarve, Tao Geoghegan Hart was cautious. “I want to concentrate above all on the first part of the season. At this time of the year, we read everywhere that riders announce their big goals, but the reality for me is that I don’t have them. I think that that doesn’t make sense for me to consider these big goals now.”
On his return from his broken leg, the Londoner set big goals for 2024.”We were already talking about the Tour with the team before I even got on the bike.” he explained when he was finally unable to appear on the starting line in Florence for the 111th edition of the Tour de France. “But now it seems like the most logical approach for me is to focus on getting back to my best and feeling like the page has really been turned after my broken leg in 2023.”
“Winning a few victories is easier said than done”
During his terrible fall on the Tour of Italy in 2023, Tao Geoghegan Hart was fighting for a podium overall. And if he obviously wants to return to the event he won in 2020, he knows that he will first have to perform in smaller events. “That’s the goal, to get back there. But before that, there are steps to take, which are to be competitive, even in small races. It would be super nice to get a few victories, it’s more easy said than done. I think it would also be very satisfying to fight for the general classification in the races, and above all, to feel that things are going well. I think that’s the main thing.
