Snowboarding: Canadian Cameron Spalding triumphs in slopestyle

Canadian Cameron Spalding won the gold medal in the slopestyle event at the Snowboard World Cup in Laax on Saturday.

Spalding, of Havelock, Ont., had a score of 86.63. He finished ahead of American Red Gerard (86.22) and German Noah Viktor (83.72).

Ontarian Liam Brearley took fourth position. Spalding became the fifth representative of the maple leaf to win in Laax.

“It’s unreal, I can’t believe it,” he said. This event has so much history and obviously Canadians have done very well here over the years. »

This is also a second consecutive victory for Spalding in slopestyle after winning the first meeting of the season, in Cardrona, New Zealand.

Great Britain’s Mia Brookes won the women’s event with 84.86 points. The New Zealander Zoi Sadowski Synnott (77.29) and the Japanese Kokomo Murase (71.15) accompanied her on the podium.
