FC Barcelona traveled to the suburbs of Madrid this evening to face the Getafe club for the 20th day of La Liga. Result, small draw for Barça, 1-1.
FC Barcelona had an opportunity to seize. By winning on the Getafe field this evening, and at the same time taking advantage of Atlético Madrid’s defeat in Leganés to return to three small points in the La Liga standings. It was still necessary to find the fault against a team which, undeniably, confirmed its ability to only defend.
Hansi Flick’s players, however, believed they had done the hard part by opening the score in the 9th minute through Jules Koundé. On a wonderful deep pass from Pedri, the Frenchman, in the penalty area, came up against Soria for the first time before starting again with his left foot and opening the score. The match, one-sided, boiled down to extensive ball possession for Barça without any dangerous actions multiplying. And with the exception of a header off target from Raphinha (33rd), from a cross from Koundé, FC Barcelona was hardly dangerous. Which Getafe would take advantage of, against the run of play, a minute later. On a cross from Aleña, Coba, at the far post, volleyed and put Peña into action who pushed back on the left foot of Arambarri who equalized (1-1, 34th).
-Getafe had put the bus
Returning from the locker room, Barça would reproduce the same domination with similar consequences: a succession of passes in midfield in order to get around the Getafe bus, but few clear chances. And a bad habit of not going through the wings. It was at the very end of the match that Flick’s players finally showed themselves to be dangerous. De Jong, with a curling shot with his right foot, made Soria shine (80th), before Raphinha, two minutes later, lacked precision on a left-footed shot after a cross from Lamine Yamal.
A few days after their triumph in the Spanish Super Cup, Barça is slowed down in La Liga. And remains five points behind Atlético and four from Real Madrid which could go to the top of La Liga tomorrow Sunday, in the event of success against Las Palmas.
