Women’s doubles legend, former tennis player Pam Shriver lives in Los Angeles. Victim of the fires like many Californians since the start of the year, the American had all of her trophies stolen, while she is currently staying at the hotel.
For several days, Los Angeles has been facing terrible fires which have killed at least 27 people according to a latest report. Many athletes live in the Californian city. This is particularly the case of Pam Shriver, legend of women’s tennis.
Third at the WTA in 1984, the American wrote her name in the legend of the yellow ball, particularly thanks to her doubles performances. She has won 22 Grand Slam doubles tournaments, including five at Roland Garros. She also won a gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, the WTA Finals 10 times and won the Fed Cup twice.
“It was the car where my most important trophies were”
Like most residents of Los Angeles and the surrounding area, Pam Shriver had to leave her home due to the fires. Staying in a hotel since then, the American champion announced, on her X account, that all of her trophies were stolen during these fires: “My son and I are at the police station to report that our car was stolen on the hotel parking lot we evacuated to when the fires started. This was the car where my most important trophies were stored there until we could safely return home.
-After this revelation, Pam Shriver was interviewed by ESPN. She lamented this event in the current context: “It’s really sad in many ways that when people are at their lowest and most difficult times, people do things like this.”
A very sad situation, especially since Pam Shriver should normally have been in Melbourne for the Australian Open. She is the coach of Donna Vekic, qualified for the round of 16 of the tournament. The Croatian is therefore accompanied in Australia by Sascha Bajin, elected coach of the year in 2018.
